QuestionMy husband and I have a 17 month old son and now are trying for number 2. It only took us about a month to conveive our first child. We have now been trying a month for out second child. May 15th I started my period. It only lasted 3 days (18th) and it was not as heavy as usual. I thought, maybe I was pregnant, so 3 nights ago I took a test and it was negative. Could I possibly be pregnant, just not enough to show up on a test or is it just wishful thinking and most likely I am not yet?
AnswerIf you normally have a 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. You can only become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16 each month. If your last period started on May 15, you would have ovulated on May 28 and could become pregnant if you have sex on May 27,28,29, or 30. Your last period sounded like a normal period. A period is normal if it lasts anywhere from 1 day to 10 days. I doubt that you are pregnant. You are due for your next period on June 11. If you do not get your period by June 18, then take a pregnancy test. In any case, try concentrating having intercourse today. Otherwise you will have to wait for your next period and try again on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. Remember, you have only been trying one month (one day of ovulation). Usually it takes up to 12 months to conceive. You were just really lucky with your son. Good Luck.
