Irregular Periods & Fertility After Metrogel: What to Expect

Question
Age: 32, no children, July 29th (but it's weird - it only was for a day and a half, then it stopped)  I was wondering about being on my period for a day & 1/2...isn't that a little strange?  I got off birth control pills around mid May and was on a 39 day cycle, and then a 31 day cycle.  In addition, in trying to balance my PH, my obgyn has put me on metro gel twice a week for two months (we already did this for one month and it wasn't 100% successful, so he wants to try it for two more) so I'm wondering if my husband and I can still continue to try to conceive on the days that I'm not using metrogel(since I'm only using it twice a week)? My obgyn is out of town so I can't ask him.  Thanks for you help!

Answer
A period is considered normal if you bleed less than 14 days at a time. Even bleeding of only 1 1/2 days is considered normal. When you stop the pill, it may take several months to get back to a regular cycle of 28 days.  Don't worry.  Metrogel is safe for usr during pregnancy and we often use Metrogel during pregnancy for bacterial vaginosis. You can safely continue to try to conceive even when you are taking the Metrogel. It will not have any effect on conception.
