QuestionDr. Rappaport,
The Provera, given once a day X10 days, is supposed to stop the current bleeding after a few doses. Then it should give me a withdrawal bleed after I finish the 10 days which I will count from day 1 to start Clomid from days 5 - 9.
My worry is that I am still bleeding on the Provera (I took the 6th dose last night) and it hasn't slowed. If it doesn't stop after the course of Provera, how am I to tell when the first day of the withdrawal bleed is to determine when I should start Clomid?
Thank you.

Dear Dr. Rappaport,
Thank you for answering my question.
I had a missed AB about 2 months ago. When my first cycle started after the AB, I bled lightly for 4 weeks non stop. My Doctor performed a biopsy and identified some plaque and endometritis. He then also performed a D&C and did some light scraping. In the mean time, I was on Doxycycline for 10 days. And my bleeding finally curbed for a couple of days. After the D&C, my bleeding started up again and thus was given the Provera to have a clean withdraw. I had an anovulatory cycle. He also gave me a course of Clomid for the next cycle to make sure I ovulate.
My question is, tonight I will take my 6th dose of Provera. I was given 10 days worth. I currently am still spotting bright red. I was told by the pharmacist that I should only bleed for about 3 days. Should I be concerned? If I continue to bleed, when should I notify my doctor? My doctor is on vacation this week so I am not able to reach him.
Thank you.

Usually you will start your period sometime after you start the Provera(or twice a day for 5 days) and you should get your period on time. There is no standard length of time that you will bleed.
AnswerWEhen we give Provera in order to stop current bleeding, we give either 10 mg twice a day for 5 days, or 10mg once a day for 10 days. You will usually start bleeding very heavy and then it will taper off and stop. When you start your next period, start the Clomid on the 5th day after you start bleeding. Then continue the Clomid on cycle day #5,6,7,8, and 9.
