AnswerDear Shay,
There is no way to know how long it will take you to conceive this time. Some women conceive in 2-3 months, while others try for 12 months before conceiving successfully. Different sources gives different averages for times - I've seen an average of 5-6 months and I've seen 8-10 months. I believe it is completely dependent on the couple and how knowledgeable you become about conception and fertility.
Pay attention to your cycles - write down dates when you begin your periods and how long they last. The day you start is Day 1 of your cycle. Days 11-21 are your most fertile days, with ovulation typically occurring on Day 15, based on a 28-day cycle.
Having sex every other day between approximately days 9-19 will increase your chances of conceiving dramatically. Sperm cells survive about 5 days once past the cervix (opening into the uterus). Eggs last only about 24 hours unless fertilized. So, it's best to have plenty of sperm cells waiting for the egg to be released. But having sex every other day allows your partner's body time to build back up his sperm stores.
Also, pay attention to cervical mucus. When it becomes slippery, like an "egg whites" consistency, this indicates that you are about to ovulate and conditions are right for fertilization. Write these observations down also.
I hope this information has helped you and I wish you fantastic luck! Have a happy Christmas season.
