Ovulation Pain and Pregnancy Concerns: A Detailed Explanation
QuestionI'm 19 years old and no children. I wrote to you last night. My last period was july 7. I have one more question. You said that with a 39 day cycle you ovulate on day 25 wich was the 31 of july. But why did I have ovulation pain on the 28 and 29? Do you ovulate as soon as you have pain or during or after the ovulation pains? That's something i'm confused on. Also I had unprotected sex on 26,29,31, and the 1 of aug. Do you think that it's likely i'm pregnant? Thanks a lot again! I always reconmmend you. You helped out alot!
AnswerWhen you are about to ovulate, you may start having some pain on one side of your abdomen or the other starting a few days before you actually ovulate. Ovulation occurs when there is an LH (luteinizing hormone) surge. Ovulation can occur the same day as the pain or a few days later. I cannot guarantee that you ovulated exactly on July 31, because you may have had a shorter or longer cycle that month. HOwever, ovulation ALWAYS occurs fourteen days prior to the first day of your period. You do not always get your period exactly on the 39th day of the cycle. Since you probably ovulated around July 31, you could have conceived if you had sex on July 30,31, August 1, or 2. Since you did have unprotected sex on the 31, you certainly could have conceived. If you do not get your period on time, wait an additional week and take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, you are not pregnant.
