QuestionHello! I have been visiting a fertility specialist this cycle, to determine why I haven't been able to conceive this year. My question is, in doing the Clomid Challenge this cycle, my doctor has scheduled me to have an Endometrial Biopsy done for next week, which would be 11 Days Past Ovulation. I'm concerned that if I AM pregnant, the biopsy is going to cause a disturbance down there, and possibly cause a miscarriage. I've heard so many different things with regards to this. Do you think there is a chance of miscarrige if I have this procedure done? I know a home pregnany test likely would not show a positive at 11 days past ovulation even if I was pregnant.
Any insight would be appreciated. My specialist said there is little to no risk of miscarriage, but I've suffered through miscarriage in the past, and I really don't want to chance it again!
AnswerThere is little risk of miscarriage if you have an endometrial biopsy performed while pregnant. Most of the time, we do not know the cause of miscarriage. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. However, if you take a biopsy in the EXACT spot of implantation (if you hade, indeed, conceived) the biopsy may remove the pregnancy. On the other hand. an endometrial biopsy is part of an infertility workup (in addition to the Clomid challange test, an HSG, and semenanalysis). I would follow the instructions of your doctor.
