Understanding Potential Miscarriage Symptoms & What to Do

Question
About a month ago,I passed 2 blood clots and at that time I though that I may have had a missarriage.Well I saw a little bit of spotting after that and that lasted only a few hours,so I decided to take a pregnancy test.and it came out possitive. After that I made an appt.with my obgyn and they gave me a blood test and it conformed the home test I took that day before.then I started spotting again.so I want to see him and he said that I was loosing the baby.that my levels where dropping they were 600 and they dropped to 5oo and something. But I am not loosing any of the symptoms,if anything there getting worse.I have swollen breasts and nipples, and a lot of water gain, and not nausea.Could I still be pregnant?

Answer
Hi Laura,

Your symptoms are normal, even through miscarriage. Now I understand that your HCG levels are falling, and thats never really a good sign. Also, the spotting, and the clots you are passing are not a good sign either. However, the only way to be 100% sure to see if you have lost the baby, or are losing the baby is to have an ultrasound.

I highly reccomend that you request this. If you have lost the baby, or losing it, or if its viable this will certainly most be the most accurate test result.

I have seen many times, ladies being told they are losing babies, yet went on with full term pregnancies. Sometimes, its possible to have what is called a "threatened miscarriage". Its your body's way of showing you, and warning you wants going on,but it hasnt discharged the fetus.

Bedrest, has been prescribed for those whom showed viable and living fetus's, and many continued throughout there pregnancy. But the only way to be 100%, is to get a sonogram. Your pregnancy symptoms, will gradually decrease if you have indeed miscarried. You still are carrying the HCG hormone, and thats exactly what gives your the pregnancy symptoms. As that weakens, so will your symptoms.

Hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing.
