Questionim 11 weeks pregnant and having some pink discharge with very small red clots and weak cramps. ive recently had sex and also have just found out that my pap smear came back abnormal. im scared that i might be having a miscarriage...can you please help me?
AnswerHi Amy :)
Cervical displacia, or abnormal cells found in pap smears will not cause a miscarriage. If it even has potential to develop into something more serious such as cervical cancer, it would literally take years to do so. Cervical cancer, is one of the preventative cancers, because it is easily treated, before having chance to develop into something more serious. However, if you have lesions on the cervix, this could cause spotting, however I do think considering the papsmear is recent, that its VERY unlikely the case.
Keep in mind, that spotting during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy can be normal. However, if you are passing clots, and experiencing cramping this could be an indicator of a problem. Sometimes, if you are over exerting yourself, your body will warn you, by showing spotting, and cramping. Its essential, that you listen to your body when you see these signs and symptoms. Remind yourself, that you are NOT to lift anything heavy. Even a cat, or small dog is to heavy, but often we take it for granted. Standing long period of time on your feet, will could also cause stress to your symptoms as well. Generally, sex is okay during pregnancy, but you dont want to have vigerous sex by any means. Your pregnancy is still young. Stress, and worry can also put strain on your pregnancy as well.
I highly reccomend that you contact your physician for evaluation, as a precaution. I wouldnt sit on this to see what happens. In more serious scenarios, your progesterone levels could be low, and spotting and clotting can be an indicator of this. This at times can be easily rectified, by taking suppliments prescribed by your physician. However, if this is a miscarriage, or a threat of miscarriage there is unfortuently nothing you can do to stop it.
Definately, call your doctor and have yourself evaluated. They will most likely do an ultrasound just to see how things are going. Again, I dont know exactly what is happening with you Amy, but its a possibility that could be a non serious issue, or it could be an indicator of something a little more complex, such as miscarriage.
If you start to bleed heavily, and experience severe abdominal cramping, its essential you see a doctor immediately, so please keep that in mind.
In the mean time, pamper yourself, stay off your feet, keep you feet elevated, and try not to worry. (I know thats easier said then done). I also think at this time you should avoid having sex, until you have been evaluated.
I am sorry that I dont have a conclusive answer as to what is going on with you ..I could only list the possibilities.
I hope it did give you some insight however , and I thankyou for writing.
If you have any more questions, or concerns, please dont hesitate to write back :)
All the Best :)
