Pregnancy Concerns: Understanding Miscarriage Risk at 8 Weeks

Question
I am 8 weeks pregnant, had an ultrasound last week Everything was normal, baby had good heartbeat and size was exactly as it should be.  I am in excellent health and eat healthy.  My levels are "great".  I am afraid to tell anyone that I am pregnant because I fear a miscarriage. I have had no cramping or bleeding.  Should I still be worried about miscarriage?

Answer
Dear Dina,

The "right time" to tell family and friends about your pregnancy is a very personal decision. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I can tell you that the majority of miscarriages do happen in the first trimester (12 weeks or before) if that helps you, but you don't seem to be indicating any risks of a miscarriage at this point anyway.

Here is my own personal philosophy when I look at all the pluses and minuses and break everything down.... everything is best in moderation. So, maybe the answer is not to tell the world you are pregnant right away, but to simply tell your most trusted confidantes. The ones that you know you will be able to count on no matter what happens in your life because you have always been able to trust in them - no matter what.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question in some small way. I wish you well.
