Severe Pain During Pregnancy: Seeking Medical Advice
QuestionI am 17 years old, 30 weeks pregnant. I have been experencing severe pain for the last week and a half. If I put my weight on my right hip, when I try to move, my left hip hurts extreamly bad. At some points if I am sitting down and try to stand straight up I get severe pains in my upper thighs my outside vagina and my butt and my uterus. SOme times I will just be laying down and I get on and off pains for a while and they hurt so bad sometimes I cry.
Last time I went to the doctor I told her I was having bad pains and she said that its round joint ligament pains that are only going to get worse. Could you please give me a second opinion?
AnswerPain upon getting up from a bed or chair, or when suddenly turning while walking can be due to rond ligament stretching. This is usually felt in your groin, not in your hips. Sciatic pain (due to pressure on the sciatic nerve) can cause "shooting" pain down your legs (often all the way to the foot on the outside of the leg). You can try tylenol or extra strength tylenol or a heating pad. See if a warm shower will help. If the pain is unbearable, call your doctor. Don't wait until your next visit. Round ligament pain is due to the stretching of the round ligaments (the ligaments that anchor the uterus to the wall of the abdomen).
