QuestionHi Dr Ramirez
I am in South Africa. I have a two year old son. Since from April 2009 I have been trying to fall pregnant for the second child with no luck. The challenge has been pelvic pains. I have been visiting my GYN regularly since April this year. When the doctor put me through the scan/ultrasound he has identify some liquid in my uterus of which it is causing pain especially after the menstruation. This has been going on for the past 3 months i was even admitted to the hospital due to pelvic pains and strong anti biotic was administered through the drip, still the pain persisted. I have also been taking different antibiotic orally e.g. Tavanic pills on the number of times. Today I also went to the doctor again he picked up that the pelvic pain is caused by the liquid in my uterus he then decided to prescribe Purbac 480mg twice a day of five days. I am not sure what is really wrong with me, please explain. secondly, Is it possible for me to fall pregnant while having liquid in my uterus and having pelvic pain. Please help what can i do i am confused. The doctor also suggested to put me on Clomid since i dont ovulate. please Dr give me advice
AnswerHello Ntombikayise from South Africa,
I am afraid that the information that you are giving me does not make sense to me. "Liquid in the uterus" is not an abnormal condition that I know of that can cause pelvic pain. It also does not explain why antibiotics would be warranted. Is the pain all the time or it comes and goes? Is it more with your periods? Do you have pain with any specific activities?
I'm afraid there are too many unanswered questions for me to give you an opinion. I wonder if your doctor is not looking at the right possibilities? It is possible that you have endometriosis causing the pain or an ovarian cyst. These would need surgery to remove.
I would not recommend Clomid at this time since the pelvic pain is unanswered. I would also recommend that you see an infertility specialist before starting any fertility treatments. I'm not sure that I have a lot of confidence in your doctor at this point.
