Low Progesterone & Spotting in Early Pregnancy: What to Expect

Question
im 31, first pregnancy. 1st day of last menstruation was 9th March. I have been spotting for the last 2 days (brown) and went to gyny. we did a scan, the heart is beating, but there was some blood around the uturus to be seen. My progestern is low 4.9 so he put me on utrogestan (400 mgs first 4 days and then 200mgs)  and told me I have a threatened pregnancy. I need 1 week of pure bedrest and come back in 2.5 weeks.
How high should level be and how big are the chances that i will keep the baby. Also how long before i will notice that i might be miscaarying? can the heart stp but i will only miscarry in 2.5 weeks and all this time think Im still pregnant? last question: will my body still naturally break off the pregnancy in case the embryo is not healthy while im taking progesteron? thank you very much.

Answer
Any time you have a positive pregnancy test and some bleeding (brown or red) and the cervix is closed, we call it a "threatened abortion". If the cervix starts to open, it is called an "abortion". If all the products of conception are evacuated, it is called a complete abortion. If the products of conception are only parially evacuated, it is called an incomplete aborton. If you have a threatened abortion,50% go on to abort and 50% go on to have a normal baby. We place you on bedrest. When the bleeding stops, and the HCG value starts to double every 48 hours, it is a good sign.A miscarriage can occur at any time. Not just within 2.5 weeks.Until you have passed tissue, you are still pregnant.Progesterone lowers the risk of a miscarriage. If something is wrong with the embryo, it usually aborts on its own. Good Luck with your pregnancy.
