Post-Miscarriage Recovery: Understanding the Recommended Waiting Period

Question
Hi :)
I have recently suffered a misscarriage at 8w2d, on the 2nd of May. It was a spontaneous loss, that seems to have been complete (I had a pelvis ultrasound yesterday). I have read a lot of suggestions that a woman should wait one cycle at least before trying for another pregnancy. Why is this suggested? I am wanting to ttc asap, but am a little concerned at the reasoning to waiting a cycle.
I spoke to my doctor and I mentioned that I was going to try again and he did not say I had to wait a cycle, he just told me he would see me what i was pregnant again :)
Thank you very much for your time
Tanya

Answer
The only reason we ask women to wait for a normal peeriod prior to any attempts to conceive is merely to be able to "date" the pregnancy. If we know the date of your last period, we can accurately tell when you are due, when you conceived, and how far pregnant you are. After the miscarriage, you probably will ovulate in around 14 days. You probably can conceive if you have sex around that date. There is no harm in conceiving before your first cycle. If you wish, go for it. Good luck.
