Understanding Placental Mucus Plug & Labor Timing: A Personal Experience

Question
Well, the first day of my last period was 9/5/05. So that makes it the 12th of une. But they thought she looked 'smaller' when they did the U/S at 20 weeks so they moved the date up. i refuse to listen. There was hardly any blood. Just enough to make it def pink. I went into labor within 3-4 days of losing my plug with my son. What are your thoughts on due date and impending labor?

Question -
At 30 years old I am 34-36 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. (Due dates are 6/12 and 6/23) Friday evening I took a warm bath to sooth the aches and pains of the pelvic spreading. The tub was clean and my son was clean and this was done on the advise of my midwives. Anyway, I noticed the mucas plug/'bloody show' when I was draining the tub. I remember losing my plug with my son (15 mos old) but can not remember how soon after labor began. He was born at 36 weeks. Can you tell me the long and short of how soon this could happen? My labor was so short with him, I am really trying to prepare my family and such for my daughter's arrival.

When you lose your plug, labor usually starts from a a few days to a few weeks later. Was there lots of blood? When was the date of your last period. It is odd that you have two different due dates, so far apart..

Answer
If your last period started on September 5, you would have ovulated on September 18 and could have conceived if you had sex on September 17,18,19, or 20. Based on your lawst period, you are due on June 12, as you thought. However, if the sonogram at 20 weeks showed more than 2 weeks difference, we usually change the date. You can go into labor two weeks after your due date or two weeks before your due date. Once the mucus plug starts to come out, you can go into labor within a few days or up to a few weeks. It is not very predictive. Good luck.
