Abdominal Pain & Ovarian Cyst: Possible Causes & What to Do

Question
My last mensturation was March 4,2006 (however I spotted on April 15-not even enough to fill a pad).  My home tests have been negative (however in my first pregnancy my test, including blood work, all came back negative-I found out I was pregnant by hearing the hearbeat. My Dr has chosen not to send me for blood work, but I went for an ultrasound last week. I got my results yesterday, my uterus is tipped and I have a cyst on my right ovary.  Could these be reasons for no mensturation, I am also very bloated (wear my top button undone)and I have cramping or intermittent pain over my entire abdominal area, sensitivity by and on the belly button (have gained about 15pounds).  Thank you for your advice

Answer
Laura,

The cysts could play a role in missing your period.  Your doctor might want to check for polycystic ovarian syndrome.  This can affect ovulation and menstraution.  It can also cause the symptoms that you are having.  Some people with PCOS go months and months without a period.  The best way to regulate your periods and limit the number of ovarian cysts is birth control pills.  I would make an appointment with your OB/GYN to discuss your options.
