I had a m/c 7 months ago i am 43 yrs old. I am pregnant again and am 6 weeks i have an u/s scheduled this week and hope that i see a heartbeat. My levels last week were 4285 bhcg and my progesterone was 16.2.. I am so scared..Can you give me some advice..

Dear Rosie,
After a miscarriage, any woman is a bit hesitant about every little thing with the next pregnancy, so don't think you are unusual. It is very normal.
At 5 weeks, the normal range for hCG is 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml, so you were well within the norm last week. Your progesterone level was also really good at 16.2. So - the first indicators of a problem are already ok!! :-)
Most of the time we can see a heartbeat when you are well within your 6th week, so the likelihood of seeing the heart activity is fairly good with your scheduled ultrasound.
So far, everything sounds good. Try to relax - this is a new and different pregnancy. I hope I helped. I wish you well!

AnswerDear Rosie,
So far, it sounds as I would expect it to - as far as your doctor's evaluation. It is slightly surprising that your level was that high even a week earlier, but it wasn't so high that we would be suspicious of an unhealthy pregnancy by hCG levels.
It really will depend very much on what they find on the next ultrasound. At that time, they expect to see heart activity. So if they do, everything is great and dating was just a bit off!
It may just be that you ovulated, and thus conceived, a little later in your cycle that month than normal. It is only a difference of four days. Only 5% of babies are born on their actual due date, so you would need to be ready to go a few weeks before that day anyway.
Right now, you just have to wait for the next ultrasound and keep thinking positive. :-)
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. Be well!
