Mucus Plug Loss at 32 Weeks: What Does It Mean?

Question
Hi I'm 29 years old and this is my first child. I have had a pretty good pregnancy only thing is some cramping througout the pregnancy due to a surgery on my right ovary for ovarian cyst.  Last Thursday I went to the birthing center for contractions they gave me a shot to stop them and it did.  The pain still was there but the dr. said the baby is still really high up. I was dialted 1 centimeter, but my cervix was still very think.  On Saturday I was in the shower and lost about a size of a silver dollar or more of mucus. I went for my checkup yesterday and the doctor said I have thinned out and he felt the babys head.  So that was obviously my mucus plug.  Just wondering if this means I will have her early the Dr. kept saying 35 weeks is ok for delivery but make sure and lay low and do nothing for the next 2 weeeks.  Can you tell me what you think? I'm just very anxious and I want to have advise?
Thank you.

Answer
When you start losing your mucus plug, you may go into labor anywhere from two days to two weeks. At 35 weeks gestation, it is a bit too early to go into labor because the baby's lungs will not be totally mature until 36 weeks. However, if you go into labor, we would not stop the labor. Try to rest  for two weeks. When you start to have contractions every 3 minutes at the level of your belly button that remain hard for at least 45 seconds each, and keep contracting for an hour, call your doctor and get checked. Once your cervix has opened up to more than 3-4cm, you will be admitted to the hospital. Good Luck to you.
