24-Week Ultrasound: What to Expect & Understanding Results
QuestionMy name is Jennifer Kendrick. I am due with my third child on November 14 2006. I believe that the first day of my last menstual period was Feb. 7, 2006. I am about 23 weeks pregnant right now. I went in for an ultrasound at 19 weeks. I was told that I will be having a boy. Currently he is in the breech position. My AFP screening came back normal (I had it at 19 weeks also). While in the ultrasound room, the tech kept taking measurements and I was there for about 30 minutes. She told me that she wasn't able to see all of the baby's organs but it may have been the position that he was in because he wouldn't move. She told me that I would need to come in for another ultrasound on my next appt. I asked my midwife about it and she said that it was nothing to worry about. I have been scheduled for a Level 2 ultrasound next week and I am very very scared. Can you please tell me what this may mean. I am 26 years old and have been looking at websites about Level 2 U/S and I am just completely scared and don't know what to do. Can you please help and just give me a little direction?
Thanks
AnswerMost of the time, a breech will change position back to a vertex position by 36 weeks gestation. If it remains as a breech, you will have a cesarean section at around 38 weeks gestation. The level II ultrasound merely takes a more thorough look at the fetus. Don't worry about it. It will give you a better impression of the baby.
