Understanding Postpartum Bleeding and Potential Pregnancy After Stillbirth

Question
I am a 24 year old mother of 2, they are only 10.5 months apart. I recently gave birth on May 4 '06to my third daughter, who died at 37 weeks gestation due to a true knot. I had postpartum bleeding for 2 weeks (I only bled for 2 weeks with my first 2), so that is normal for me. My husband and I had sex on May 28 '06. Eight days later I started to spot, and I spotted for 6 days. The spotting was only when I wiped after using the bathroom, I noticed a very small amountn on my panty liner only once. My question is: does it sound like it could be implantation bleeding? I also checked my cervical position at 4 weeks postpartum and was soft and high, I am wondering if that could be an indication of an early pregnancy, or if my cervix is still healing?I haven't had my 6 week check up yet. Thank you in advance.

Answer
You really should not have had sex before your siz week checkup. However, it is possible that you ovulated two weeks after the delivery and it is possible that you could have conceived. The reason we want you to wait for a regular period before sex is in order to be able to "date" the pregnancy. Usually, after a delivery (stillbirth or live) you will not get your normal period until 6-8 weeks later. The bleeding you had could have been the start of your first postpartum period or it could have been implantation bleeding. It was at the correct time for implantation bleeding. It was the length of a normal peeriod, as well. If you do not get a period by 6-8 weeks from the delivery, take a pregnancy test.
