QuestionI had D&E surgery on Jan. 18th, due to a miscarriage. I have yet to recieve a period. I have already taken one round of pills to try to bring my period on about a month ago, and that didn't work. I am now on my second round of the same pills, and I still have 6 more days left to take them. I haven't had any spotting whatsoever in these 4 months, but I have had cramps periodically throughout. I have been blood tested twice by my doctor for pregnancy, most recently a week and a half ago, and I am not pregnant. What elso could be wrong with me?
AnswerDear Peaches,
There are many various causes for amenorrhea (absence of periods) - pregnancy being just one. Others can be:
-Hormonal imbalances, which cause fluctuating levels of the hormones needed to support menstruation
-Emotional or physical stress / Depression
-Rapid weight loss or gain
-Change in diet
-Low body weight
-Obesity
-Frequent or strenuous exercise
-Cysts or tumors in the ovaries
-Thyroid or Pituitary dysfunction
-Certain medications or drug use
-Menopause OR Premature ovarian failure (menopause before age 40)
-Occasionally stopping birth control pills
Since you had the D & E procedure, there may be an issue with some scar tissue. However, they would likely need to look around inside your uterus to determine if that is the case and typically it is another cause.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
