Clomid 50mg: Understanding Ovulation Induction & Heavy Periods

Question
This may be a little long so I'm going to apologize now.  I don't want to leave anything out so you can answer my question the best way you can with the info.  I've always had very heavy periods with severe clotting and cramping since my first period(at age 12).  I'm 28 now, a few years ago my ob thought that I might had endo so he performed a D&C which was the best thing that could had happen as far as my periods are concern.  I had less cramping and I'm able to finally wear one pad instead of two at one time.  Then about a year or so ago my ob performed a lap that should that my right tube is completely blocked and my left tube is partically blocked.  My periods ranges from 27-31 days.  I used to have a 7 day cycle but for the past 5 months they vary from 3-7 days and are becoming much lighter.  My husband and I are "trying" but "not trying" to have a baby.  We are "trying" but we're not temping or anything like that.  My ob did prescibe Clomid 50mg for 3 months on days 5-9 because he didn't think that I'm ovulating on my own. I'm also very dry, hardly any cm.  I had my first round last month on days 5-9 which was unsuccessful, this month I took it on day 2-6 (I read that 2-6 and 3-7 have a higher success rate).  CD 1 was Nov 5 and I took it the Clomid on day 2, I read that ovulation can occur 5 to 9 days after the last Clomid.  So all this being said, can you please tell me when do you think that I'll be ovulating?  I've bought pre seed to help with my dryness but is there anything else that I can do?  I read that you can tell when you're ovulating by your cm but since mines is barely there what other signs should I look for?  I did buy a therometer to temp but it said to wake up at the same time but I wake up at different times, I work 3p-11p and sometimes don't fall asleep until late so waking up real early is difficult.  I'm trying to drink enough water to increase my cm?  I know that this is long and I'm sorry, I just wanted to give you all the info so you can better help me.  Thank you so much, Nina

Answer
Dear Nina,

Well, it sounds like you are doing everything that you can for now! I don't know that the extra water will help with CM, but it will definitely keep you from being dehydrated and dehydration can contribute to vaginal dryness. So - it can't hurt! There are ovulation kits and fertility monitors that can be purchased to assist in your effort if you find that the methods you are trying now don't work also.

Unfortunately you're in a tough spot with your cycles and trying to track ovulation. As far as temps - the basal body temp (BBT) falls 1 to 2 days before ovulation and rises 1 to 2 days after ovulation. By carefully measuring and charting your BBT every morning before you get out of bed, you may be able to estimate the time of ovulation. So the basal thermometer can help you try to determine when you are ovulating. You don't necessarily have to wake up "early". With you working 3-11's and having a different wake/sleep cycle than most, maybe your "same time" every day would be 9 am or 10 am.

However it may be just as easy, especially since you are just starting to try to conceive, to relax, assume you are going to ovulate through the month with the Clomid, and proceed with the "trying" part.  :-)  If it were me, from about the 4th day after Clomid, I'd be having sex every other day (giving the man's body a chance to build back up his sperm stores) for about 2 weeks. Yeah - I know... it sounds a little maniacal...but it just depends on how much you are wanting to try. And then, at least for now, you really don't have to worry about trying to take temps and figure out when EXACTLY you're ovulating. Worrying and stress can affect your cycles also, so if you can avoid that - it would be great!

I wish you fantastic luck and I hope I've helped! If you need more specific information on BBT tracking or the monitors, please let me know.
