Provera & Clomid for Fertility: A 45-Year-Old's Concerns
QuestionHi - I'm 45 and trying to get pregnant with child #4. I had a miscarriage about 5 months ago. Our children (same husband) are 17, 14 and 8. My periods are pretty regular, 28-32 day cycles. I've been using the ovulation monitor (clear blue easy) for a few months and a couple of time, it didn't show that I ovulated. My Dr. said the same thing - that b/c of my age, I'm probably not ovulating every month. He gave me 10 mg of provera to take for 10 days, and then clomid (50mg) to take starting day 5-9 of next cycle.
My question is - do I really need the provera since I have periods regularly? Is there any risk at all to a baby if I happen to be pregnant but don't know yet?
AnswerIf you are getting your period regularly, you do not need the progesterone (Provera). I would suggest taking the Clomid as directed. Progesterone will not cause any harm to a pregnancy even if it is taken during the pregnancy. We used to use Provewra as a pregnancy test in the past. Don't worry.
