Clomid & Prometrium: Tips for Conceiving After 2 Years of Trying

Question
Hello
My OB/GYN put me on Clomid after noticing that I was bleeding 17/20 days a month. I would generally bleed around the time I should of ovulated and then around the normal time of my period. He also put me on Prometrium, this will be month 2 of the clomid. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years as we already have a 5 year old together. What else should I be doing to increase my chances. I am bbt charting, my mine seem so weird, I cant seem to follow. Any advice would be appreciated!

Answer
Hello Crystal from somewhere in the World,

I am a little worried about what is going on.  Did your doctor do any testing?  Why are you bleeding so long?  Is there a hormonal problem? Uterine problem, Cervical problem? Tumor?

On Clomid, does your doctor do ultrasounds to see if you are responding to that dosage?  How does he/she know if you ovulated or not?  How are you timing your intercourse?  How do you know when to start the Prometrium?

As you can see, there are a lot of unanswered question that bring into question whether your doctor is treating you correctly?  Clomid is not a miracle drug to be given to any patient wanting to get pregnant.  It is used for specific reasons, which is mainly in women that do not ovulate.  It is NOT used to treat abnormal bleeding.  You may want to consider going to see a fertility specialist for your care if you are having trouble getting pregnant.  Otherwise, you may just be wasting your time.
