QuestionI had a transvaginal U/S on 5/16, at the time I was 5w5d. My OB/GYN had said that she was hoping to see a gestational sac, a yolk sac, and if we are lucky, a heartbeat. Thankfully, we did see all three! Of course, I was (and still am) thrilled! However, the baby's heartrate was 81. The u/s tech, who was wonderful, said that was normal since the heart just started beating. It should then increase significantly over the next few weeks. I'm concerned b/c I have heard that the HR should be @ least 90, if not, there is a higher chance for m/c. Then other sources say the heart rate itself is not as important this early as its mere presence... My Dr doesn't plan on doing another u/s since there is nothing to do either way except wait. I have had no cramping or bleeding...my last bloodwork on 18 dpo was hcg 2253, and progesterone 34.5...Am I worrying for no reason? Any input would be great...thank you!
AnswerDear Kristin,
Everything sounds perfectly great! :-) I would not be at all concerned about the FHR of 81. It actually was a very positive sign that the heartbeat was already present before 6 weeks gestation - no matter what the rate.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and congratulations!
