Understanding Grade 3 Placenta: A Parent's Experience & Management

Question
I was told at 37 weeks I had a grade 3 placenta. The doctor told me what it was, and said I should have NST done twice a week. The test showed the baby was fine. I went in i was 38 weeks and asked them to induce my labor because i had the feeling something was going to happen to my baby. And the doctor told me know. She wouldnt do anything until I was 39 weeks. She wont remove a baby until it is 39 weeks, I went in for my last doctor visit a day before I was going to be induced and they couldnt find a heart beat. And I was told my baby had died. I had my daughter Sept 30 2008. And had her sent to akron for an autopsy, the cause of death was lack of oxygen late in the pregnancy. Could that be from the grade 3 placenta? And could this have been prevented if they who have induced my labor at 37-38 weeks?

Answer
Amanda.
I am so sorry to hear your terrible story. I can't image what you are feeling. I think your doctor would better be able to discuss with you the pathology report from the placenta. You don't know if she would have even survived even if they had gotten her out earlier. You should know that it was not your fault! You tried to have your doctor induce you early, so don't take reponsibility for this loss. Good luck to you.
