IUD Complications & Fertility: A Patient's Concerns
QuestionI'm not sure if you can help me or not but here goes...
I had an IUD put in after I had my daughter. When my doctor put it in, she perforated my uterus with it and i had to have it surgically removed a month later. i was wondering if this can cause problems with getting pregnant. I've been off the pill for a year and haven't conceived, although we're not trying hard we're not preventing at all either. I'm kind of worried about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
AnswerKatrina,
I hope you changed OB doctors! How awful for you! You may indeed have some issues getting pregnant. There is likely some scar tissue from the perforation. What you may be more concerned about is once you are pregnant, you are more of a risk of uterine rupture during pregnancy. Anytime you have had any type of uterine surgery, you are more at risk for rupture. This is a life threatening condition that if not treated within minutes, you could lose the baby and yourself. I am sorry I don't mean to scare you, but I'm sure you want the truth.
Hope this helps!
