QuestionQUESTION: I had a M/C at the end of May (never developed past 6 weeks)and decided on the drug Cytotec. After 2 doses and 3 US's - it didn't comepletely work, so I opted to let nature take it's course to expel the small amount of tissue left.
On July 3rd while working I experienced a gush, I mean a GUSH of blood. Thought this was my period, but only lasted one day. That morning I noticed I had cramps like I'd worked out too much. Then, about 7 days later, it happened again - another gush and nothing more.
My questions is this my next period or could my body be finally expelling all of the tissue?
Than you for your help.
Mary
ANSWER: Dear Mary,
If you and your doctor had determined that your uterus had not completely expelled all contents, this was most likely the remainder of the uterine contents.
I would suggest a visit to your doctor to make sure. The problem that many women run into with natural miscarriages past a certain point is that many times the body does not expel all tissue and a risk of uterine infection develops. This is why quite often doctors and women opt for a D&C because the procedure many times becomes necessary anyway.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.

QUESTION: Thank you. I spoke to my Dr. and she agreed saying that it was more than likely that it was the uterine lining sloughing off. My last "gush" occurred on 7/10/07.
I have a follow-up question, after some odd feelings, I took a HPT today and it came up positive. Is it possible for me to be pregnant already even though I've not had a period since the miscarriage?
Thank you.
AnswerDear Mary,
It is POSSIBLE because you can ovulate before ever having another period. However, with the uterus never completely expelling all contents until possibly just as recently as 7/10, it could also be that your hCG level is still above 25mIU/ml from the last pregnancy.
Sometimes after a miscarriage/D&C, doctors will check the hCG until it reaches a non-pregnant level (<5mIU/ML). I would let your doctor know that you have tested positive and she will probably want to get a serum beta hCG level to rule out a new pregnancy.
Hope that helps. Be well!
