Tubal Ligation: Sterility & Post-Procedure Recovery - Expert Answers
QuestionHello! I had baby #3 last month and had a tubal ligation the day after her birth. I absoulutely do not want anymore kids so I was wondering if you could answer a question for me:)
How soon after a tubal ligation are you sterile? like is it effective right away, or is there a certain time you should wait to resume sexusl relations? I heard somewhere that you should be careful not to have sex when you're ovulating even if you have had the prodeure done because you're more likely to get pregnant? what is you're opinion on that.
AnswerDear Angie,
A successful tubal ligation is essentially effective once it is done. However, you typically should wait until your 6 week post-partum check-up before resuming sexual activity. At that time, you can discuss the surgery with your doctor to make sure that he/she is confident about the amount of Fallopian tube removed, etc,... But the surgery is considered effective once performed. Ovulation times will not matter if there is no pathway for the sperm to get to the egg.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
