Family Planning Concerns: Discussing Pregnancy & Birth Control

Question
Well my husband is the more uneasy one about getting pregnant right now but I don't mind as much!  He does want another child maybe in another year; me personally wouldn't mind it sooner!  But when we did talk about it he said if it happens sooner then it wouldn't be a terrible thing.  Our 11 month old exausts us! :-) He wants me to get on birth control so he doesn't have to worry about condoms anymore.  The thing is I've tried taking pills and I'm just terrible at remembering to take them, and I got the NuvaRing to try but it just felt too weird having to stick it up there and then feel up there to take it out.  So I'm thinking of getting an IUD but I've heard about some bad side effects, but I'm looking into it.  Do you think it would be a good choice to get an IUD if we actively plan to have a baby in a year?  Or is it made for a more longer form of birth control?

-----Question-----
Hi I am married and we have an 11 month old son.  My LMP was 12/18/06, and before that it was 11/20/06 and 10/22/06.  My periods have always been regular and predictable.  We had unprotected intercourse on December 31st, which I found is about 1 day or so before predicted ovulation. He was only "in me" for about 1 minute and then pulled out while we finished doing other things. (Sorry if this TMI!)I am not on any birth control and we are not actively planning to get pregnant again but wouldn't mind either if it turned out that way.

My question is would that just 1 minute be enough to cause pregnancy?  Exactly how much sperm is there in pre-ejactulation?  If it weren't in my high fertility period I wouldn't be as curious, but this kind-of got me wondering if it could be a real possibility.  Thank you in advance for your time and response!

Studies seem to be inconclusive about the amount of sperm in pre-ejaculatory fluid. My own opinion is that there would be some because the male is constantly making sperm and it is in the male tubes where it mixes with seminal fluid. Good question. If you don't mind if you get pregnant why not go all the way?

Answer
Why not check out the natural methods. It would seem to fit for folks like you who have concerns about the side effects of most contraceptive methods. You can look at this web site http://www.irh.org/nfp.htm and learn more about natural methods. As the husband, I was always happy that my wife was not exposed to the side effects of contraception. I agree with you about barriers. They are messy and reduce the personal contact of the couple.
