Post-Lipoma Removal Pain & Fluid Collection: What to Expect

Question
I'm a 23 year old female who had surgery 3 weeks ago for an egg sized lipoma in my right abdomen almost on the belt line. I'm still having quite a bit of pain.  My surgeon told me I had a lot of fluid around my incision and drained it, but it still hurts quite a bit. I'm supposed to go back every week to have this drained, but for how long? What is this called and how did I get it? Is there something I can be doing to fix this problem and make it go away faster? Why did I get a lipoma and am I going to have more?

Answer
You had the lipoma forever, but it behaves separately from the rest of your fatty stores.... it has a sheath and will grow if you gain weight and sometimes won't shrink when you lose weight so it can become more noticeable with either.....

when removed, it can leave a pocket that fills with fluid from surrounding tissue.  Sometimes I sew the pocket together to prevent it, but when this happens, typically, it slowly shrinks down over weeks.  Hopefully, it won't get infected and complicate the healing.
