Castro Oil for Cervical Dilation: A Personal Experience

Question
I just had my son weeks ago - July 10th, and I used Castro oil to help my cervix dilate, I was due for the 24th of July but my body was going into labor but my cervix would not dilate thats why I took it. I did not have the normal symptoms when I took the Castro oil .. no nausea or vomitting, no diarrhea .. nothing. It was just as if I did not take it .. all night through the next morning I was still having the same contractions and called my doctor I went in and se sent me to labor and delivery I was then 3cm dilated and 80% effaced. I gave birth to my son after midnight the day I wet in and gave a natural birth to a healthy baby boy. While in the hospital I was given pain medication to relieve abdominal and stomach cramping, days after I left the hospital when I ran out of pain medicine I could feel the same  pain I had in the hospital. I cannot hold food down it comes out in a soft runny bowel movement like Isaiah and its painful or I'm really gassy and that is painful too, could this be an result of taking the Castro oil? and could my baby be having bowel problems too because of taking the oil because he strains alot while pooping and nothing comes out just gas sometimes... we go back to the doctor next week but she said his straining was normal but they do not know about the Castro oil use.. are we ok ?

Answer
Dear Amaya,

More than likely the castor oil has nothing to do with the symptoms you, or your baby, are currently experiencing. The castor oil would have been processed through your system long ago. The immature digestive system of infants is very delicate and it is not unusual for them to have issues with colic or alot of gas or constipation. This is an issue which your doctor may order Mylicon drops for or they may even change something about his diet to relieve. For you, I would suggest increasing moderate daily exercise and increasing roughage and whole grains in your diet to try to relieve your symptoms. But I would also suggest talking to your doctor if it remains a problem.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and apologize for the delay - unfortunately I have been dealing with a personal family crisis.
