Trinessa Side Effects & Irregular Bleeding: A Teen's Experience
QuestionI'm a 17 year old girl. I have been on Trinessa for about a year now. Last month I was going to try and skip my period because I had homecoming that weekend and I really didn't want to be on it. So I skipped the sugar pills and just started a new pack like people said you could. When I started the new pack I had light bleeding, then after that I started my period. So then it stopped, but this month I started the light bleeding again about a week before I was supposed to start my period. Then it stopped again right before I started my regular period. My mom was trying to figure out if I could possibly pregnant or what the deal was. My boyfriend and I have had sex in between all this happening. She thought it wasn't the best to trust the pills right now. Also, my friend that is 6 months pregnant didn't stop taking her pills until she found out she was pregnant, could this have any effect on her baby? Thank you for your time,
Sarah
AnswerAs long as you have not missed any active pills, you are not pregnant. You may have "messed up" your cycle by trying to avoid your period last month, but it should return to normal if you continue to take all your pills at the correct time. Don't worry about light bleeding at times throughout the month. Just continue taking the pills. As far as your friend is concerned, there is no problem taking birth control pills while you are pregnant as long as you stop prior to the second trimester of pregnancy (week 13).
