QuestionI am pregnant with what I hope will result in my third child! Here is some background on me first. I had a miscarriage the first time I ever conceived. Then I had my son after 18 months of trying. When he was about 18 months we tried again. After 10 months I conceived again only to miscarry again. Then after another 9 months of trying, I conceived my daughter.
I was never sick at all with any of the miscarriages (they both happened at about six weeks, one was a d&c because the baby wasn't growing at all). I was very ill with both my kids, especially my daughter, but the sickness didn't start until about six weeks.
Now...I am pregnant again without even trying this time. And we are thrilled that it happened like this! But this pregnancy is different. At what I thought was about 4 weeks (or around the time of my period) I started feeling nauseous. I took a test and lo and behold it was positive! About almost two weeks later, I spotted just a bit and it only happened once. They did my blood work and found that the progesterone was a bit low (which also happened with my daughter) and they put me on progesterone. It shot up from 11.7 to 15 two days later. But my hcg level (although high) did not double. It went from 9,370 to 10,009. I went today for a transvaginal sonogram at what I thought should be 7 weeks gestation(my last period was on Aug. 2). There was no heart beat but the pregnancy measured 5weeks 4days. Also when the dr. saw me the first time (at what I thought was 6 weeks) she only saw a pregnancy sack. At this sonogram, the tech saw the yolk sack too. So apparently something is growing! I am still nauseaus, my uterous is growing, but I am not really sure what is going on? I am not as nauseaus as I was with my son's pregnancy and certainly not as nauseous as with my daughter's pregnancy, but I wasn't nauseaus with either of them until 6 weeks and they are telling me that this pregnancy is only at 5 1/2 weeks? I am very confused and want another opinion of what could be going on? Could I have ovulated so late? I am 39 years old, my periods are regular 27, 28, 29 days apart is the range. I don't even think we had sex that month after day 11 (starting from the first day of my last period).
My question is...What could be going on...I am puzzled! Thanks, Sherri
AnswerHello Sherri. Every pregnancy can be very different. It is certainly possible that you ovulated later than usual, it is also possible that the ultrasound is wrong( I have VERY little faith in scans). All you can do is feed yourself very well and wait. If this pregnancy is meant to be, it will grow- if it is not meant to be it will end. There is NOTHING you can do about it. I know that is frustrating, but we really should not interfere with these things. They fail for good reasons. All the best- Cheri.
