QuestionI don't want to sound like the usual suspect, but I had an abortion in the middle of Jan. 2011. I then had, what i think, was a normal period starting Feb. 6, 2011. I didn't start my period towards the end of March, beginning of April, like i was supposed to. I took a pregnancy test on around April 10 and it came out negative, then waited 2 days and took another one and it turned out positive. My question is "is it possible that the abortion PLUS stress, threw my ovulation cycles off?" I've had 4 ultrasounds and each one says that I got pregnant around March 3-8. Does this sound right? Or could i have gotten pregant around Feb. 20-23 like all of the ovulation calculators suggest? Thank you!!
AnswerAfter an abortion or a pregnancy, the ovulation is off for 3 months. I tell my patients not to use the ovulation calculator until they have had three normal periods to determine the cycle. The Ultrasound date during the first 8 weeks is very accurate. So it is correct and only off by 3 days.
I have my patients be careful and use condoms until the cycle is established.
