QuestionHello,
I am 22 years old and have never had problems with periods coming regularly or anything. When I got married my husband and I weren't trying to have a baby but a month into our marriage we got pregnant. After I had my now 2 year old daughter I got the mirana IUD. Well I had it removed in July of this year and my husband and I have been trying to have another baby. I have a regular cycle in July, August I was 2 weeks late, and in september I was a week early and my period lasted almost a month and it was such a heavy flow i couldnt leave the house without being worried because i kept bleeding though my ultra tampons and pads. I did go to the doctor and he gave me medication to stop my period. the medication worked and a few days later in october my period started again (like the doctor said it would and it was super heavy too like he said it would be). since then i have been taking ovulation tests after my period just like it says on the box and both in october and november the stick has always only had the control line show up, which to me says that i'm not ovulating at all, but i did have a period on time in november but it was the lightest one i have ever had and lasted 1/2 the time it usually does. I am starting to freak and and worry that my husband and i wont be able to have another baby. is there something that i need to do to help my body ovulate? or is it still to early to worry or do anything about it? should i go back to the doctor? i just dont know what to do. thank you for your time.
AnswerHello Whitney from the U.S.,
First let me reassure you that it is not impossible to have another baby and because of the many technologies available today, it is more than likely that you will have another child. It may just take a different approach.
Secondly, it sounds like your ovaries are not functioning correctly, that is, you have an ovarian dysfunction. Under the care of a fertility specialist, you can undergo ovulation induction with fertility medication to correct this issue. Once ovulation occurs again, as long as there are no other problems in the system, you should be able to become pregnant. Since your cycles are irregular and your regular doctor offered no treatment plan for pregnancy, I would recommend that you seek out a fertility specialist for treatment from this point.
There is a chance that your ovaries will return to normal function on its own, but that may take a while. If you don't want to wait, see the fertility doc. If you can wait, then continue waiting and trying naturally.
Good Luck,
