Second Trimester Miscarriage & D&C Recovery: What to Expect
QuestionI had a miscarriage at 18 weeks. The doctors say it was due to a bacterial infection. The weird thing is he says that this certain type of bacteria usually only gets into the uterus by invasive procedures during pregnancy. I had a period 28 days after the miscarriage. It was really heavy. This was a week ago. The period stopped for the most part but I will spot every now and then. It's not a lot and I usually don't even have to wear a pad. I've had minor cramping in the left ovary but nothing serious. My doctor started me on provera two days ago and the sporadic spotting is still occuring. Is this normal or should I go to a new doctor and make them examine me further?
AnswerTiffany,
I am so sorry to read of your loss.
After a MC it can take the body a while to get back to normal, it has to return to size, and the hormones all need to settle down. Some women get back to cycle straight away, others find they bleed irregular for some months afterwards. I am not medically trained, and I have no knowledge on the medication you have been prescribed. I would say if you dont feel happy with this doctor then go and see another one, that is your right. I would maybe wait and see what happens with your next period. If it is the same, or is very painful then I would definitely see a doctor (be it the same or a different one), or if you have any sharp pains before the next period is due. Sometimes a second D&C is required, but not often. If you want some more information I recommend a good parenting website, which also supports women who hve had a MC and offers good advice and information; www.madmums.com I hope you start to feel better soon,
Kind regards,
Christine
