Understanding Miscarriage & Post-D&C Bleeding: What to Expect
QuestionOn Dec. 7th i had a D&C at 10 weeks pregnant, the baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. From the begining the pregnancy had been different, baby not measuring the right size, but then a few days later it did. Also, a slow heart beat. So we expected the pregnancy to end. After the D& C i had bleeding for 2 weeks. Then a week later light bleeding for 2 days, i thought was my period, but wasnt. I had very minimal spotting after intercourse twice. The 4 weeks later , Janurary 8 th-11th i had a very strong painful period. My doctor told i could start trying to concieve again, and i would most likely ovulate around the 22nd.... so heres where im at. Yesterday i had very light spotting again and some cramping, but hadnt had sex within 24 hours...could this mean im not completlet heed from the d&c? If im still spotting ocasionally is it safe to try and get pregnant again? I dont wabt to do anythung that could put another pregnancy at risk...my doctors out for a week as i tried to go to her with this. I dont want to miss a chance to get pregnant, but am afraid to lose another baby.
AnswerDear Rachel
The commonest cause for continuous or interrupted bleeding that last that long after a miscarriage is incomplete evacuation of your uterus at the D&C. Therefore, a vaginal ultrasound seems to be a must to make sure your uterine cavity does not have any remnants of pregnancy. If empty which I do not think, there will be no problem but if there is any remnant, a repeat D&C may be required.
Good Luck
