QuestionI had a miscarriage 29 April and was approx 6 weeks along although was
getting very faint lines on a hpt. I bled for 5 days and passed some clotted
tissue. I have been waiting for my period to restart so I can try to conceive
again. 2.5 weeks ago I did a hpt to see if my hch levels had dropped below
detectable so I could start expecting ovulation. The hpt was negative and I
haven't noticed any signs of ovulation. Yesterday I took a hpt as it was six
weeks since the start of my miscarriage and I was thinking of making an
appointment with my gp about my missing period and I knew they would do
a pregnancy test first. I did a quickcard hpt and two dark lines came up very
quick (45 sec - 1 min). I repeated it with the same urine on a first response
test and again two lines came up rather quick. Is it possible this is retained
tissue (although I had no infection or complications that I am aware of post
miscarriage) or is it possible it is another pregnancy. I did have sex with my
husband 2 or 3 times in the last 5 weeks. The miscarriage was natural, I
started bleeding then it got heavier and had bad stomach pains, not like a
period but more like a contraction. I have a son who is 8mths old.
Thank you in advance.
AnswerHi Bianca
I hope you are doing well. It appears my original response wasn't sent properly, sorry that you have had to wait for me to re-answer your question!
A woman is VERY fertile after miscarriage so it's possible that you have fallen pregnant straight after your loss. It takes aprox 10 days for a fertilised egg to travel down the fallopian tube so you can indeed have a fertilised egg making it's way down whilst you were still bleeding.
Retained tissue doesn't tend to make hCG levels rise, it simply evens them out so they either stay relatively the same or they drop incredibly slowly. It sounds like you have had a complete miscarraige going by what you have said.
I hope this has helped, again I apologise for your answer being delayed.....Allexperts have far too many pages to get through before the answer is sent and it has caught me out a couple of times!
Kindest Regards
Sarah
