QuestionHi Vicki, on 10-15 I delivered our baby who died in utero. I was in my 16th wk. I had gradually diminishing red bleeding for the first 2wk pp, then it changed to brown spotting with occasional red mixed in. I thought it was going to stop completely, when, at 3w 1d pp, I suddenly had red flow, though lighter than a period. It has been going on for 4 days, starting in gushes, then curtailing. I has small raisin-sized clots yesterday, which was the day of heaviest flow. My question is, could this still be the pp bleeding going on, and is there a danger of hemorrhaging at this point? Is it normal to go back to a red flow after brown spotting that was almost done? (for 1wk, one pantiliner was all I needed all day long). Also, we are anxious to ttc asap! My OB said we could on the first ov after the first period. Is this too soon? I have heard that the endometrial lining needs time to rebuild itself. We've had 7 healthy pregnancies & deliveries and this was our first loss. I am 43 and the clock is ticking... Thank you for considering my questions. ~Kim
AnswerHello Kim,
I am very sorry about your loss. That is never an easy time.
It is possible for you to start bleeding again if you are doing too much and to go from brown to bright red. That is your body's way of saying "slow down!" And I suppose, it is possible that this is your period, although this would be a short cycle. As long as you aren't passing clots bigger than your fist or soaking more than a pad per hour, I would be too concerned. Unless you are having an infection, I doubt you are having a late postpartum hemorrhage.
I would see how it goes over the weekend and call your provider on Monday if it isn't lessening.
In terms of trying again, one cycle should "reset" your cycles fine. And, because your clock is indeed ticking, you should try not to let too much time pass.
Good luck to you!
Vicki
