Understanding High AFI & Fetal Growth Measurements in Pregnancy
QuestionHello,
I had a level 2 ultrasound today. I have 2 questions. My AFI was 23.10 cm at 29 weeks pregnant. Is that considered too high? Also, I looked at the computer screen after my ultrasound and there was a section labeled "fetal growth" and gave the choices of "unspecified, macrosomia, assymetrical IUGR, and symmetrical IUGR". The box for "unspecified" was checked. Why would that box be checked for my baby when they WERE able to get all the measurements and weight? Does unspecified mean something bad?
Thanks.
AnswerUnspecified fetal growth means that there was nothing unusual about the fetal growth that required a different label such as macrosomia (large baby( or some form of intrauterine growth restriction. An amniotic fetal index of 23.1 is fine. I would not worry unless it is greater than 30 or less than 10.
