Early Pregnancy Bleeding: Causes, Symptoms & When to Seek Medical Advice

Question
I found out i was pregnant on the 25/5/11 and dr confirmed it on the 27/5/11  i started having  brownish bleeding the Friday before i was told i was pregnant and started having cramps on the Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday but i woke up pain free on the 27/5/11 but all though those days i was still bleeding not much but more than spotting. I started bleeding more on the saturday afternoon like a period heavy but just as heavy as i normal bleed on a period. i went to the hospital and Dr said my pregnancy test came back as a faint positive so im most likely going though a miscarriage and to contact my Dr to arrange a scan for about 6 weeks.
is it possible im still pregnant? or is it more likely Ive lost it?
thank you for you time.

Answer
Dear Michaela,
The best way to be sure if you are still pregnant would be to take another blood test. You can even take it now. Ask the doctor to compare it to your previous test. If your Progestrone and  HCG levels (the pregnancy hormone) went up since your last blood test, that is a good sign. If it stayed the same or went down, it is more likely that the pregnancy ended.
There is no way to be sure except another test (either blood or a scan), or waiting and seeing (which is very hard to do).
I wish you the best,
Sheva
