Unexpected Return of Periods After Menopause: Causes & What to Do

Question
Hello, i have been in menopause for 3 years, i have not had any periods at all not spotting or anything. then all of the sudden i am getting my period again, i have gone to the doctor & he has done a byopsy & i have had a pelvic ultra sound. all came back negative. right before my period stopped completely 3 years ago i had a D&C.  the doctor said if the bleeding is a problem he could do another D&C.  is this unusual to start again after 3 years ? & am i still in menopause ?

thanks !
June

Answer
Hi June, I have heard of women bleeding after years of not more than once, including women in their 60s and 70s having a period out of the blue. My own mother had a couple of D&Cs in her later years, and the doctors said it was not abormal. If your tests are clear, then not to worry. Menopause is a term used after women have not bled for 12 months, so you're technically still there. But without any other symptoms, it sounds like an easy transition.
