IUI Success at 46: Understanding Progesterone & Estradiol Levels
QuestionI had my first IUI one week ago. I had my blood level check done today and my progesterone was 30.7. My estradiol level was 204. I know there is no guarantee but being that I'm 46 years old and one ovary, if this doesn't work - would you tell a client like myself to keep trying more IUIs? I have had no problems getting pregnant in the past, but taking my age into consideration (and my fiance who is not the father of my two other children - 13 and 21). Am I spinning my wheels for nothing??
AnswerDear Deb,
Given your age, I would recommend only trying another IUI after this, if this doesn't work, and then pursuing IVF. Some insurances require you to do at least 3 IUI's before they'll approve IVF. IVF has a much higher success rate than IUI, especially where you only have one ovary and your age is a factor. Good luck.
