QuestionI had a medical abortion 10 weeks ago, i was 12 weeks pregnant. After a few hours the nurse said i'd passed everything, before i went home i had the depo injection. I then bled for 2 weeks and then had no bleeding til about 3 weeks ago which only lasted a few days and was very light. I've put on abit of weight since then and keep feeling something like small kicks in my stomach. Also my breasts are producing milk, which has happened since the abortion. I went for my 2 week check up but they never gave me a scan or a pregnancy test, just asked me a few questions about how i was feeling. Is there any chance i could still be pregnant?
AnswerDid you have an ultrasound 2 weeks after your abortion to make sure all the products of conception had indeed been passed? If not, I'd advise you to get one right away. It's very unlikely that you are still pregnant, because a nurse did say that you passed everything, but there's always a chance she could have been mistaken.
As for your symptoms: weight gain is to be expected when you are on Depo Provera. Your irregular and unpredictable periods are also completely normal effects of depo provera. The 'kicks' you have been feeling are probably something to do with digestion. But your breasts producing milk is worrisome. It *could* happen as a result of the depo provera, or the pregnancy hormones that are still remaining in your system, but that is rare so it is worth checking out.
So try not to worry - just make sure you get an appointment to have an ultrasound as soon as you can. It's very unlikely that your pregnancy continued, but better safe than sorry, right? If indeed it has continued you will most probably have to abort, since the medical abortion drugs result in fetal deformations.
