B12 Lab Results & Injection Timing: What You Need to Know
QuestionCan taking a B12 shot right before getting the lab test done make the results abnormally high? I am usually deficient in b12 and take shots. The last time I went to the Dr I took the shot then had a blood draw. then my B12 was 62394.... what would be the cause or would tis skew the results? Jessica
AnswerHi Jessica, I'd be happy to try and answer your question. I woudn't recommend getting your B12 level checked right after you get a B12 injection. The level was probably falsely elevated. But are you sure of the result as being 62394? That's very very high. The machine where I work will only read a result of less than 2000, anything greater than 2000 it won't even read. No matter, a high B12 level isn't a problem, a low one is, that's why you're getting the shots. Next time you have your B12 level checked, I would wait a day of two after you have the injection.
