Understanding Urine pH Levels: Is 8.5-9.0 Safe?

Question
Hi Robert,

i have a question about ph level.  i bought a ph test kit to test ph level using urine.  my wife try first and her strip change color to dark blue. i looked up the color in the kit and found out that her ph level was some what between 8.5 - 9.0.  then i tried myself and saw mine turned green which was 7.0 which i know is normal.
my question is the following:  is ph 8.5-9.0 safe?  according to the label in the ph test, ph should be between 7 - 7.5 and sometime during the day it may reach 8.0. it says that above 8 is not safe.
is that true? if yes, is there any type of food or pills to bring the ph level within normal range?  thanks

Answer
usually urine is a little acidic... but 7 is OK.  When it is high, that probably indicates a urine infection with bacteria that produce base excess and raise the pH.  So it is worth getting checked for an infection...... we don't treat the pH, we are looking for what caused it.....
