Vitamin B12 Injections: Effectiveness and Subcutaneous Alternatives
QuestionI am trying to find out if anyone has come across B12 shot not working IM? I am now giving them to myself Sub Q and my levels have started to rise?
AnswerWith Vit. B12 or any of the variants m-B12 and so forth IM or SQ would be equivalent. Taking oral (PO) B12 may not achieve the therapeutic goal due to a person's inability to produce intrinsic factor (IF) in the parietal cells of the stomach. Therefore parentral injections are given for this vitamin. Note that it will take several administrations (weeks to months) for serum levels of B12 to reach "normal" values.
