Understanding Your Anion Gap and MPV Lab Results
QuestionGoodmorning I had lab tests this morning and received my results...can you please let me know what exactly the anion gap tests for? it was 7.0 and the reange that was listed was between 8.0 and 16.0.....also what exactly is the MPV it resulted 6.3 (with range being 7.4 -10.4. all other lab results were normal. Thank you
AnswerHi Delma. The anion gap and MPV (Mean Platele Volume) are both merely calculations based on other test results, so as long as your other lab results are normal (which you say they are), there's probably nothing to worry about. The variations from normal are slight and unlikely to be of any clinical significance.
