QuestionHi,
So I got blood taken at about 2:45pm (July 9th) - 4 viles. And then gave a urine sample. I felt fine, a little anxious, but didn't feel any pain with the needle. I was lying on a couch (at a friends) from 3 - 4:30, and suddenly at 4 a wave of nausea just hit me. I hadn't eaten before or after the blood was taken. I had to be at work by 5, so I walked down the street, but while working felt like I was going to throw up. I told my manager I had to be excused, and as soon as I got to the bathroom I just basically hit the floor (I didn't pass out, but everything was blurry and I couldn't concentrate) I got sent home, and still feel kinda sick (it's now 1:30am) although getting food in me helped.
I'm 16 years old, 5"6, 120 lbs. As far as I know I have normal blood pressure....should I be worried, or was I just dizzy from not eating / getting blood taken?
Thank-you for your time
AnswerHi Lulu. Have you ever had blood drawn before? If this was your first time, and this happened, it may be because of your age. Teenagers (especially girls) are more prone to dizziness and passing out after bloodwork. Most teens will outgrow this, but not all. I've had 60 year old men pass out on me after drawing their blood! The best thing you can do is next time if you need blood drawn, tell the phlebotomist what happened this time. Possibly they can draw your blood while you lay down. It would also be best if you would eat something as soon as possible afterwards. It doesn't have to be a big meal, maybe just some crackers/cookies/chips and a drink.
