Understanding Post-Abortion Clots and Misoprostol

Question
I took the Abortion pill for the first time over one week ago. Yesterday at my follow up visit they informed me that I had in fact terminated the pregnancy but there was still clots in my uterus that needed to be expelled so they gave me a second dose of Misoprostol. I took it last night. Upon taking it the bleeding I was still experiencing stopped and it was almost like a large clot was released and it got stuck blocking anything else from exiting my cervex. Is this possible? I feel a cause for alarm because my first experience with Misoprotol was the exact opposite. I had an extreme amount of blood lost and by not having any lost this time I am very nervous and scared. I have an appointment later this afternoon. They say they may have to get my cervex to dielate so I can pass the clot but they won't know until they see me. Over the phone she said that isn't common for blood clots to get stuck but I can't help feeling like something in there. I've have given birth naturally once before and it is the same type of feeling (minus all the pain), I feel like I need to push. Please advice.

Answer
Hello, Heather,

You know, this sounds awfully familiar in some ways. It's not entirely different from something that happened to me. You know, "the abortion worked but there is still something in your uterus."

That could be a flat-out lie. It was in my case. It could also be your baby who is stopping the blood flow.

How far along were you when you took the first pill? What pills did you take? Just Misoprostol?

There is a good chance that the pills did virtually nothing, and they want to do a surgical abortion on you. They want to hide the evidence of how things went wrong, for starters.

I urge you not to have anything further to do with them. They committed malpractice by giving you Misoprostol in the first place. The manufacturer says a pregnant woman should NEVER take it. It can kill a woman in several ways. It can cause her uterus to rupture. It can cause her to bleed to death (sounds like it tried that the first time), and it can cause a woman to get Toxic Shock Syndrome, which can kill a woman within hours. If you took anything vaginally, you are at risk. You need to have a doctor test you to see if you have Clostridium sordellii in your body. If you do, they need to begin immediate aggressive treatment for this infection. I do not know of any way they can save the life of a woman once she shows symptoms. There are other problems as well, which will turn up later. I can talk about them when I have more time.

Get another doctor fast! Call an organization in your area and ask them to help you. You can find one in your area by going to this web site:

Please go immediately! I'm sorry I didn't see this message earlier, so I could warn you just in case it's time for you to leave for your appointment now. I will stop talking now so you can get going. Please let me know how you do. Don't let them do anything else to you.
